In January of 2020, out of the blue in a
moment of clarity (Dad suffered from Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s Disease) he
told me he had asked Jesus for forgiveness of his sins. He lived with my
husband and me for 3 and ½ years. Last September I had to place him in a
nursing home in Cuba, Mo. The staff there loved him and often told me how much
they enjoyed his stories of growing up in the country and when he joined the
Air Force. He had the ability to touch people’s hearts and those who knew him
loved him. Something which I think speaks to his character is he was only 21
years old when I was born, yet he not only raised me, but also my 2 older
brothers from my mother’s previous marriage. He often worked 2 jobs to see that
we had food and a roof over our heads. At the end of his life he was cheerful
and good to others. He was generous with his time and money. He truly loved his
family – nieces and nephews included. He passed away peacefully in his sleep.
